In the heart of Port Townsend, a charming self-serve farm stand on Howard Street has become home to one of our community’s most inspiring creative collaborations. Meet the young artisans of Tough Sprout Farm: Tana, Anora, and Cabett, along with their mentor and neighbor, Bob Hansen.
What started as a simple farm stand selling plant starts and flower bouquets in spring 2023 has blossomed into something truly special. Under Bob’s patient guidance, these young creators have expanded their offerings to include beautifully crafted birdhouses and snowflakes, all made from recycled wood materials.
The team sources their materials sustainably, giving new life to old pallets, fence materials, and project remnants. Each piece tells a story of collaboration, creativity, and environmental consciousness. Bob has taken these budding artists under his wing, teaching them valuable skills from power tool safety to painting techniques.
The dynamic trio brings their own unique energy to the project. Tana (14) contributes innovative design ideas, Anora (14) adds her artistic flair, and Cabett (11) brings boundless enthusiasm to their collective works. Together with Bob’s mentorship, they’ve created a business model that’s as sustainable as it is inspiring.
“We are so fortunate to learn from Bob as an artist, a builder and wonderful friend,” says Tana. Their gratitude shines through in every piece they create, each one a testament to the power of intergenerational mentorship and community collaboration.
You can find their handcrafted treasures at their farm stand kiosk at 32220 Howard Street. Stop by to support these young entrepreneurs and take home a piece of Port Townsend’s creative spirit.
